Keeping the minimalism, innocence, and simplicity, each musical box was crafted by hand using an old-fashioned technique called “paper theater”, a form of miniature theater dating back to the early 19th century in Europe. The boxes integrate the same mechanisms created decades ago such as the use of manual strings that produce one-minute of melody with 18-notes of limited movement.
Each piece was carefully created, cut and assembled by hand. The boxes crafted by Ríos display hand-carved quotes, images, and miniature details that are allegoric to renowned personalities of the world of literature, visual arts, music, theater, and film. These one of a kind musical boxes were displayed at the Main Library of Miami Dade College’s Wolfson Campus, in October 2021. The exhibition was curated by Viviám María López.

LAS CAJAS MUSICALES
Conservando el minimalismo, inocencia y simpleza de una caja musical, cada pieza fue creada usando una técnica que comenzó a principios del siglo XIX en Europa llamada teatro de papel. Las cajas fueron diseñadas utilizando mecanismos que fueron creados hace décadas, tales como la cuerda manual que produce un minuto de melodía con 18 notas y un movimiento limitado. Cada obra fue cuidadosamente creada, cortada y ensamblada a mano. Elaboradas por el artista William Ríos, las obras muestran citas, imágenes y detalles en miniatura tallados a mano que son alegóricos a personalidades reconocidas del mundo de la literatura, las artes visuales, la música, el teatro y el cine. Las cajas de música fueron expuestas en la Biblioteca Principal de Miami Dade College – Wolfson Campus, October 2021. La exhibición fue curada por Viviám María López.
